Tomas Silva – Exercise 101 – LV SP/S 2019

Virgil Abloh has been a top dog in the fashion industry for quite a while since the release of his most well known brand "Off-White". A couple months back he was named the the Creative Director for Louis Vuitton's mens wear, this was a huge stepping stone for him and he paved the way for kids of color who were into fashion and wish to take part in the industry. His fashion show debuted LV's Spring/ Summer collection for 2019 took place during Paris Fashion week caught everyone's eye and left everyone begging for more, he paid homage to Micheal Jackson and Lionel Richie's 1985's Ethiopian charity as well as strong themes of Afro-futurism. A rainbow which slowly faded down the runway made his minimalist yet futuristic style stand out. His background in architecture had a lot to do with how he set up the runway and how he took the concept of light going through a prism and bringing that idea to life. Louis Vuitton mens wear has a very bright future and with Virgil at the helm who knows how fashion might grow over the years.

  1. Not the biggest fan of Virgil’s work but this show was definitely for the culture – legendary to say the least. As the first black head designer at LMVH Vuitton, he really did what he had to do for all us kids of color looking to venture into the industry.
