“Creating a new document”

1. Open Adobe InDesign by navigating to Start>All Programs>Adobe InDesign
2. Many times, when you open InDesign CS2 or later, a splash screen will come up, from here you can choose the “new document” button. If this splash screen doesn’t appear choose File > New.
3. You will see the following dialog below.
4. Use the page size drop down menu to select “Letter” as the paper size. (or CD for assignment 5)
5. As InDesign can create booklets as well as single pages, you can select to have multiple pages created by changing the number in the “number of pages” area of the dialog. You can also select to have facing pages or not by using the check box next to “facing pages”
6. Select Ok
7. The default units for your document is often in picas, you may want to change this to inches. To do so, navigate to Edit>Preferences>Units and Increments… You can now change the ruler units (both horizontal and vertical) to inches.
