Photoshop 1.17 [transparency gradient]

“Creating a Transparency Gradient”

  1. Begin by opening Adobe Photoshop CS3. Make sure the layer you wish to add the transparency gradient on is active (highlighted in blue).
  2. In the Layers Palette, select the “New Layer Mask” icon on the bottom of the Layers Palette. (Shown in red to the right)Add Layer Mask
  3. Next, select the gradient tool. There are a series of options for the tool that are shown in the gradient tool options bar at the top of the page. You can select different types of gradients using these options (shown in red below).
  4. Making sure your foreground color is white and your background color is black, draw your gradient by clicking where you would like begin the transparency and drag a line in the direction of the transparency gradient you wish to create. This can take some practice to get good results. The longer the line you draw, the longer the transparency gradient.Gradient tool
