I played around with tools we used before. First, I used the channel mixer to turn the image to black and white. Since a monochrome picture was a bit dull, so I used the brush tool to fade back to the original background color. I left the broken tree trunk in black and white in order to make a big contrast with the background. I edited the levels, brightness and curves to make it more sharp and balance. Lastly, I used the overlay function to blend in a grunge photo.
I think your original photo reflects too excessive light, so it looks fuzzy.
But, your work changed original photo to a dynamic and clear photo. Especially, it’s impressive that the lying tres looks vivid and clear by changing brightness.
