Designing Dead Space | Exercise 101, Audrey Mae Garcia

When thinking about architecture, the first things that come to mind are buildings such as museums, skyscrapers, and houses. However, a cemetery is also a challenge that is taken on by architects. Designing Dead Space: How Architecture Plays a Role in the Afterlife by Kaley Overstreet writes about what architects need to consider when designing a cemetery. Her points are useful to young designers because when constructing a structure such as a memorial, it is important to think about how it will speak to the visitors. She notes that cemeteries are moving forward from their shoe-box-like form to something more of an artwork. At the end of the day, designers create pieces of artwork once they are done with a project.
