I think this is an incredible image. This is the Colima Volcano in Mexico, photographed by Sergio Velasco, and is the winner of National Geographics 2017 Travel Photo of the Year. The rule of thirds is used placing the volcano's mouth at the lower third and centering the ash flume in the center third. Assymetry is used where the lightning strike is happening, but overall the clarity of the lava, the grand scale of the event, and the texture of the ash if what really makes this a powerful photo.
