Exercise 101- Abigail Liman

The use of Arches in Architecture

Büro Ole Scheeren has recently revealed his design for a hotel resort soon to be open in Cebu, Philippines. It's mentioned that its design was inspired by the island's natural landscapes, and it's acknowledged by the bright green wildlife wrapping around the infrastructure. As you enter, you would spot an overwhelming amount of arches accompanied by cascading waterfalls. The structure itself is very one with nature, surrounded by a forest of trees and looking out to the ocean, not to mention incorporating energy-saving solutions by providing cross ventilation throughout the interior spaces. Ole Scheeren used these arches and curves to imitate the atmosphere of Bungalows.
