Exercise 101 – Angelica Dudley – Cathedral Of Christ the Light

The Cathedral of Christ the Light / SOM

The construction of this cathedral began in 2005 and was completed on September 25, 2008. This structure is composed of mostly wood and glass, which allows for a large amount of natural light coming in from every direction. It  stands at 58 feet high and is said to withstand even the strongest of earthquakes. This cathedral was awarded the AIA Honor Award for Architecture.

  1. Such a beautiful building, and the fact that it is said to withstand even the strongest of earthquakes is crazy. Love the idea that the architect designed it so that light could come in from every direction, it is also a very modernized design for a cathedral.

  2. I remember when this was under construction it looked like a giant wooden egg. Hopefully we’ll never find out whether it was built well enough to withstand such an earthquake!
