Exercise 101- Maria Garcia

Casa de Silva is a house built by ICONCAST that incorporates the elements of a courtyard blended into the home. The house was constructed with the idea of creating an open space that brings together the exterior and interior of the house. The areas that are more private such as the bedrooms and bathrooms are more enclosed compared to its living, dining and kitchen counterparts. These areas were built in a more open area that allows the courtyard and interior of the home to be one.

  1. I found it interesting how the house has a sense of communal living, while still keeping privacy in needed areas. Also, it incorporates the outdoors, inside to create an ecologically lessened footprint.

  2. This looks like a really cool space to hang out in. I like how outdoors and indoors are combined in this space to create a tranquil atmosphere. I also like the use of natural-looking materials. The wood, glass and concrete give the house a very clean look.

  3. Thank you for your post Maria!
This home is so well put together, high ceilings with greenery makes it feel like you’re practically outdoors with lots of protection. I always wonder how much maintenance is needed to keep the plants happy and not too over-bearing.
