This is one of Ansel Adam's most iconic photographs of Yosemite. The picture showcases the valley floor in mid winter , with the lower third of the picture pulling the viewers eyes up to towering peaks on either side. Although he had no choice at the time, the B&W invites a thought provoking and almost solemn mood over the winter scene. The contrasting becomes less distinct the farther back in the picture, as low lying clouds invade the valley. I feel that between the strong composition and grey overtones, this is one of Adam's most emotionally powerful pictures.
